Sometimes it’s the smell of your dog’s coat that catches your attention first. With a cat, you might notice a patch of flaky skin as you part the fur. Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiseptic & Antifungal Medicated Shampoo is designed for dogs and cats with red, scaly or greasy skin. It works during the wash to help soothe sensitive skin and freshen the coat.

A medicated shampoo for dogs and cats

If you’re choosing a dog shampoo for a greasy coat, or looking for a cat shampoo suitable for sensitive skin, it helps to know exactly what’s in the bottle. This vet-recommended formula contains 1% ketoconazole and 0.2% benzethonium chloride, with aloe vera to help keep the skin moisturised. It’s pH-balanced for your pet’s skin and made without soap, dyes or parabens.

The 473 ml bottle is suitable for both dogs and cats aged 12 weeks and over. For a pet with a thick coat, take particular care to work the lather down to the skin. That’s where this medicated pet shampoo needs to reach, even if the outer coat already looks thoroughly wet.

How to use the shampoo

1. Start with a small area. Read the bottle before the first bath and test the shampoo on a small patch of skin to check for sensitivity.
2. Wet the coat thoroughly. Gently massage the shampoo through the fur with your fingertips until it forms a rich lather. Avoid the eyes and stay with your pet to prevent licking.
3. Allow 5–10 minutes before rinsing. Set a timer once the skin and coat are lathered. When the time is up, rinse thoroughly, taking extra care wherever the fur is particularly dense.

The label recommends washing twice a week until the skin clears, then once a week to help maintain skin and coat health. For external use only. If irritation develops or the skin problem persists, stop using the shampoo and speak to your vet.
